For any website owner or those involved in the search engine optimisation or internet marketing of a website, it is vital before starting out, that you gain a thorough understanding of how well a website is optimised and what work is required to get that website as ship shape and search engine friendly as possible.
By conducting an initial SEO website review using the points outlined in this post you will gain a clear picture of where the website in question is currently positioned, how well it’s indexed, the amount and quality of backlinks and whether there are any problems which need immediate seo attention. Following on in my panoramic photograph series, here is the second installment. This was taken at Cala Mondrago, near Cala D’or, Majorca and is further around the headland from the previous panoramic photograph I posted. The image captures the wide, almost 270 degree viewpoint but I’m still not sure whether is captures the true breathtaking vista which we found.
Once again I would be grateful for your comments and thoughts on this image.
Just a quick post as I have been quite tight on time recently due to work and family issues. Visitors to this blog may have noticed the rather unsightly default theme over the last day or two. This has been due to a bug that occurred following an upgrade of Wordpress to the latest 2.6 version.
This week I was discussing link building tactics with a colleague. One of Matt’s preferences for link building is to target blogs which are related to the subject matter or theme of the website which he is optimising for.
As the vast majority of blogs out there make use of the ‘no follow’ link attribute, getting a link on these pages carries very little (if any) weight from a search engine point of view. Read the rest of this entry »
For a while now I have been playing about with creating panoramic photographs by taking a series of images and stitching them together. A recent well earned holiday to Majorca gave me the opportunity to further practice and explore the use of this technique. Once I have got my feet back on the ground I dare say I’ll be posting further about this topic but for now I hope you enjoy the image below and feel free to let me know your thoughts and comments on it.
For some reason I seem to have a predisposition to having bad days in the office on a regular basis. I think the vast majority of people who are office based workers have come across this phenomenon themselves.
I recently came across the following compilation of clips about bad days in the office. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It’s bloody hilarious.
So whilst surfing around YouTube the other day I stumbled across the following video tutorial about Google Analytics and thought it would be a great idea to share it on the blog. It gives a good overview of its features including the different methods of analysing and comparing data using a variety of metrics. It also covers the different reporting and exporting aspects which Google Analytics offers.
A recent post on the Google Blog by the CEO, Udi Manber, made an interesting read. The post entitled ‘Introduction to Google Quality Search’ takes a look at the many different teams within Google and gives a little insight into the role they play. He touches on bigger issues affecting Google such as PageRank or the recent algorithm update as well as smaller issues such as fixes for Hebrew acronyms and advances in language queries.
After reading the article it made me appreciate the size of the task that Google face on a daily basis. The web is moving at an unprecedented rate and being able to cope with the ever changing and more complex search queries, analysis them and return the most relevant results from the library of billions of pages is mind boggling. Last year I decided to give my website a much needed makeover and start using it as a means of experimenting and testing out the principles and theories behind search engine optimisation, an area that takes up the majority of my time during the course of my job as a website designer/developer.
As part of this redesign I decided to include this blog as a method of delivering new keyword focused content on a regular basis this would allow me the opportunity to monitor the effects that regular content would have on a website, its traffic and its organic link evolution. Today marks the first anniversary of the disappearance of toddler Madeleine McCann from the holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal. Since than the story has never been far from the daily news headlines.
As a father of a three year old boy, the story is one that I find particularly upsetting. I can only begin to imagine what Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry must be going through.
From early on in the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance, Gerry McCann started a blog to help chart the story and keep the campaign at the forefront of the publics attention. This blog, along with the official Find Madeleine website which was given a facelift at the beginning of February this year.
Can You Help?
If you were in Praia da Luz or the surrounding area in the two weeks leading up to Madeleine’s disappearance on Thursday May 3, the police may be interested in any photographs you took while there.
In particular they would like any pictures that have people in them who you don’t know as opposed to scenery shots or pictures of just your own family. You can submit them to the police by visiting http://madeleine.ceopupload.com.
If you have any other information that you think may be of some use, then please contact our investigation line on +34 902 300 213 or email investigation@findmadeleine.com
